An expert panel has been set up to undertake a parliamentary review of health and social care. This is in line with the commitment given by the First Minister of Wales.

Reporting

The panel has been asked to produce a report by Christmas 2017. It will recommend action to:

  • improve health and wellbeing for people across Wales
  • reduce health inequalities

The report should consider the current situation in addition to setting out the challenges facing health and social care over the next 5-10 years.

The panel has produced an interim report. It sets out why change has to happen, and talks about areas that will be covered in the final report.

The context of the review

The panel will work within the context set by recent legislation :

  • the Social Services and Well-being Act, and
  • the seven goals of the Well-being of Future Generations Act

It will also consider the challenges of rising demand, demographic changes and financial sustainability.
