Main points
- Powys contains the largest road network of the Welsh local authorities. It accounts for the highest proportion of all trunk roads (27.3%), B and C roads (21.1%) and minor surfaced roads (12.1%), resulting in an overall 15.8% of the total road length of Wales.
- In 2018-19, 6.4% of the motorway network and 2.8% of the trunk road network required close monitoring of structural condition.
- During 2018-19, Vale of Glamorgan had the highest percentage of A county roads in poor condition (6.3%), Rhondda Cynon Taf had the highest percentage of B roads in poor condition (6.5%) and Powys had the highest percentage of C roads in poor condition (21.6%).
