The School Improvement Partnership Programme Board met for the second time on 17 September 2024.
The Programme Team are reviewing membership of the Board to ensure appropriate representation from across the sector and will be inviting a small number of additional members to join the Board.
Effective communication was a key theme of discussions at the September meeting, so I am pleased to provide this update on the second Board meeting for you to share openly with colleagues and partners.
Members were provided with an update of the work undertaken over the summer period on the core projects delivering this programme – the local and partnership project, the national functions project and the recently established transition project.
Recent priorities have been to review and update the local authority guidance and template shared in June, including incorporating reference to equity, ALN, curriculum and professional learning alongside school improvement. This guidance has now been finalised and issued to partners.
The focus of the September meeting was a discussion on managing the risks and issues that may affect the successful delivery of the programme. Key amongst these are the tight times, effective communication and how we will know the delivery of the programme has provided value for money and addressed points raised in the review of school improvement (the roles and responsibilities of education partners in Wales).
The Board also received an updated timeline of activity to the end of 2024. The timeline highlights that it remains a busy time and we are grateful for the commitment and support of all partners.

The September Board meeting was my last as Chair and Programme SRO as I am leaving the Welsh Government on 4 October 2024. Georgina Haarhoff will be taking over as Programme SRO from this time.
