The seventh meeting of the School Improvement Partnership Programme Board was held on 21 May.

The primary focus of the meeting was to provide feedback on the main messages emerging from the Spring Term workshops, when the Education Improvement Team, supported by Professor Dylan Jones and Simon Day, visited local authorities in Wales to discuss the development of local systems of collaborative improvement. These workshops provided an opportunity to explore local plans with Directors of Education, their teams and their headteacher representatives. In concluding their work to support the roll out of the Strategic Review of Education Partners, Professor Jones has since written to the Cabinet Secretary for Education.

The Board also received an update on the significant progress that has been made to establish the new national professional learning and leadership body. This body will lead the delivery of professional learning to support practitioners, including teaching assistants, teachers, senior leaders and headteachers in maintained schools in Wales along their career pathways. It will also provide professional learning to school improvement advisors. The recruitment process for the Chief Executive for this new body started on 3 June.

The next Programme Board meeting will take place on 14 July in advance of the summer break.
