Selecting the type of accommodation provider
Guidance on how to select the type of accommodation provider when registering your visitor accommodation.
In this page
Introduction
You must select the provider type before you can add your accommodation details.
There are 6 provider types you can select from.
Individual accommodation provider
You are an individual provider if you’re the only owner of your visitor accommodation business. For example, if you’re a self-employed Airbnb host.
Company or limited liability partnership (LLP)
If you have a company number, you are a company or an LLP.
You can check if you have a company number.
Shared responsibility or partnership
You’re a shared responsibility or partnership provider if:
- you share the responsibility for the accommodation with someone else
- your partnership is not registered with Companies House
Example of a married couple as a partnership
Mary and Jordan are married. They are both self-employed. They manage the accommodation together. Mary and Jordan must register as a partnership.
Charity as an accommodation provider
You can be a charity or a charitable company of any kind.
You do not need to be registered with the Charities Commission.
Sports club, voluntary or community group
You can run the accommodation as a sports club, voluntary group, or community organisation. This is also known as an unincorporated body. You do not need to be a company or charity.
Other accommodation providers
Select ‘other’ for any other provider type, such as:
- trusts
- community benefit societies
- public bodies
