How to notify PEDW before you apply, using the official form.
Contents
Introduction
Before you send in your significant infrastructure project (SIP) application, you must first tell Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW) that you plan to apply.
You need to do this before you start any official publicity or consultation about your project.
What to include in your notification
- Use the official form provided by the Welsh Ministers.
- Fill in all the details the form asks for.
- Attach a site location plan (make sure it’s to scale and shows north, or use coordinates if it’s a marine project).
- Include one of the following:
- a statement saying you will provide an Environmental Statement (this is part of the form), or
- a copy of an EIA screening direction showing your project is not EIA development.
- List everyone else who was sent a copy of the notice and supporting information.
- Pay the required fee.
Notifying other people
At the same time you send your notice to PEDW, you must also send a copy to:
- each relevant planning authority
- each community council (if there is one) where your project is located
- each member of the Senedd and House of Commons for the area
- Natural Resources Wales (if your project is in the Welsh Marine area)
- any other statutory or special consultees listed in the regulations
Timescales following notification
PEDW will check your notice, plan, and fee, and decide within 14 days if they accept it.
If accepted, you have 18 months (starting the day after acceptance) to:
- carry out the required publicity and consultation
- submit your SIP application
If you don’t submit a valid application within 18 months, your notification will expire. You will have to start the process again.
