Nominated for Bravery award

During the afternoon of Sunday 26 July 2020, off-duty members of the Aberdyfi RNLI helped save the lives of 7 people during 2 separate incidents involving rip tides at Aberdyfi.

Arwel Jones was off-duty when he rushed to help 2 teenagers boys and a man after his wife spotted them struggling in the water. He grabbed a life ring on the beach and swam out to help bring them safely back to shore. His friend Drew Nickless, who was wind surfing, used his surfboard to help bring some of the group ashore and resuscitated one of the group before they were air lifted to hospital.

Moments later, Arwel and Drew joined another volunteer Alun Edwards in helping to rescue a woman and 3 teenage girls who had also got into trouble due to the rip tide. They were also helped by brothers Olly, Josh and Will Brown.

Without their quick response, 7 people could have lost their lives that day.
