Environment champion award 2024 winner

FareShare Cymru’s belief is that no good food should be wasted. They take good quality surplus food from the food industry and redistribute it to charities and community groups in Wales. Turning an environmental problem into a social solution they help strengthen communities and have supported over 355 charities and community groups and saved over 5710 tonnes of food from being wasted. To date that food has contributed to over 17 million meals and has saved an estimated 17,644t CO2e. A community member said:

"I think that people really bond over food. It’s an easy way to make someone smile and make people open up a little bit. When you have a full belly, it makes a huge difference to your overall wellbeing. We have really brought the community closer together, and we literally wouldn’t be able to do [any of it] without FareShare."

They demonstrate a high degree of community value, outcomes and scale that make a tangible difference to peoples lives and the environment.
