Citizenship award 2016 winner

Janet Williams from Porthmadog has been chosen as a Finalist for the St David Award for Citizenship for being a foster carer for 35 years.

As well as bringing up her 3 children, Janet has fostered more than 100 children over the past 35 years, even going as far as adopting and has made a real difference to the lives of children who could not, for whatever reason, live with their own families.

Janet has also mentored other foster carers and helped train newly approved foster carers. She has campaigned at the Senedd, spoken at conferences, facilitated events, attended advisory groups and done whatever was needed to champion the role of foster carers and improve the lives of children in care.

She founded and chaired the Gwynedd Foster Carers Association and has been a trustee of the Fostering Network Wales.

Her efforts in providing children with a stable home environment have enabled her to raise decent young adults into society.
