Nominated for Community spirit award

Dr Mahaboob Basha works for the Energy Safety Research Institute at Swansea University. He has been a champion of community cohesion and the Muslim community in Swansea over many years and a passionate advocate for those in need – including refugees, asylum seekers, international students and other newcomers to Swansea. He has assisted these people in a variety of ways, from helping with homesickness to wellbeing issues, among other things.

As a trained and practicing community first responder for the Welsh Ambulance Service, Dr Basha has organised CPR training for children and young people, collaborating with GPs and other medical staff. He is also governor for two schools and has recently given his time to the coronavirus testing programme at the university.

During the pandemic he stepped up to support  vulnerable people in his community by volunteering at local care and residential homes and delivering  over 1400 prescriptions and groceries to people who were shielding.
