Supply, use and input-output tables

This release presents the second set of Supply and Use Tables and Input-Output Tables for Wales, covering 2022.

We publish 3 core tables:

• a summary supply table showing the supply of each product by geographic origin, taxes, subsidies, and distributors’ trading margins
• a use table showing how industries and final users use each product, including use for investment and exports
• an input-output table showing what each industry buys from other industries in Wales, the role of imports in production, and how the output is ultimately used

Together, these tables show the flows of goods and services between Welsh industries, households, government, the rest of the UK and the rest of the world.

The tables are available on this page in OpenDocument Spreadsheet (ODS) format and on StatsWales. A detailed methodology report is also available on this page.

Indicative economic multipliers

We also publish indicative economic multipliers for 2022. These show how changes in demand for an industry’s output might affect the wider Welsh economy.

The multipliers are available on this page in ODS format and on StatsWales. We encourage users to consult the accompanying statistical article for guidance on how to interpret and use the multipliers.

Comparability with earlier releases

These tables and multipliers should not be compared with the 2019 release, as the methods, data sources and presentation have been substantially revised.

Quality

These tables are designated as Official Statistics in Development (Office for Statistics Regulation). The methodology report outlines known limitations, including those relating to data availability and quality.

We will continue to develop these statistics by:

• engaging with users to better understand their requirements
• improving the methods used to produce the tables
• working with data providers to improve the availability and quality of economic data for Wales
• exploring the potential for new data sources to improve the tables
