Main points

  • The number of sheep and lambs fell by 5% from the figure in 2017. A likely contributory factor in this was the “Beast from the East” in spring this year.
  • The Welsh dairy herd is at its highest level in the last 15 years. In contrast the beef herd has fallen by over 20% over the same period.
