We announced regulatory measures to address agricultural pollution on 27 January 2021. The regulations will apply to all farms across Wales and come into force on 1 April 2021.

There will be transitional periods for some measures to 1 January 2023 and 1 August 2024.

The guidance and frequently asked questions provide information and templates to assist with compliance.

Welsh Government are providing a 4-month extension to the implementation of the annual 170kg/ha limit for nitrogen from livestock manure averaged over the holding, either directly deposited by the animal or by spreading. This requirement will now apply from 30 April 2023.

The Welsh Government is consulting on proposals for a licensing scheme to allow a higher annual limit for nitrogen application until 2025. The consultation document is here: Nutrient management: managing the application of livestock manures sustainably. The consultation closes on 17 February.
