The Welsh Government Biodiversity Targets Advisory Panel has experts from various areas related to biodiversity.

Independent Chair: Dr Fred Windsor

We are pleased to announce that we have recruited an independent Chair for the Panel. Dr Fred Windsor chaired our meeting in October.

Dr Fred Windsor

I am a Lecturer in Ecology at Cardiff University, where my research group, the Freshwater Networks Laboratory, integrates ecology and complexity science to understand how and why ecosystems respond to environmental change. Specific projects within this broad, interdisciplinary area include understanding changing patterns of biodiversity in freshwater systems, developing automated approaches for identifying species and detecting their interactions, and assessing ecological implications of environmental change and human activities. The research we produce as a group often has policy implications, and in the past, I have advised the Senedd and UK Government, alongside international organisations, on pressing challenges surrounding biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable ecosystem management.

It is exciting to join the BTAP as Chair, and I am looking forward to using my interdisciplinary training and knowledge to help us create robust, evidence-based recommendations for Welsh Government.
