The grant is from the Welsh Government’s Community Facilities programme which aims to develop and improve facilities which prevent the loss of community services and provide services which help mitigate poverty and its effects.

The funding will be used to upgrade the head office in Pontypool town centre by removing asbestos flooring and making changes to bring the building up to standard.

Announcing the funding Carl Sargeant said:

“This funding will help provide essential repairs to the building so that the credit union can continue to offer a valuable service to the local community.

“Credit unions offer responsible and affordable credit options for members as well as providing trustworthy financial help and advice.

“If this work is not done the community will eventually lose access to these services. I am pleased to agree this funding so that the credit union services for this area can be safeguarded.”
