Agenda item 2: Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ): workplace and workers’ well-being

The Forum received a presentation from the Welsh Government about indoor environment quality. The Forum heard how the strategic delivery plan aims to create physical environments that support health and wellbeing and how it highlights the importance of working with partners to achieve this.

Agenda item 3: reflections from the Chief Environmental Public Health Officer

The Forum heard from the Welsh Government’s Chief Environmental Public Health Officer, who stressed the importance of working closely with local authorities on regulation and enforcement. The Forum also discussed the challenges facing the environmental health workforce and noted how the launch of the Level 4 Apprenticeship is a positive step in creating a pathway into the profession.

Agenda item 4: the health and safety and equalities implications of AI in the workplace

The Forum received a presentation which outlined the risks of relying too heavily on AI in the workplace, such as in recruitment, where algorithms can reinforce bias and discrimination. The Forum heard concerns about AI driven management tools in the gig economy and how these can negatively impact worker health and wellbeing. The importance of human oversight and worker voice in how AI is used was highlighted. The Forum noted the Workforce Partnership Council’s work on responsible AI and agreed to continue the conversation.
