Further to my Written Statement of 15 May, where I was pleased to promptly accept the recommendations that fell to my portfolio, I can now confirm that the Welsh Government has accepted all of the Affordable Housing Taskforce’s recommendations.

The First Minister has been clear that delivering more social homes for rent is one of this government’s top priorities. I established the Taskforce to identify pragmatic ways to support the delivery of more affordable homes. The acceptance of these recommendations from colleagues across the Cabinet demonstrates the Welsh Government’s commitment to leaving no stone unturned in our ambition to deliver the homes our nation needs.

I will chair an Implementation Group, made up of senior officials and representatives from across the sector, recognising that we all share the responsibility for improvement and change. It is my intention that we will have the first meeting prior to the end of the summer term.

The following have been invited to nominate a Group member:

  • Community Housing Cymru
  • Welsh Local Government Association
  • Chartered Institute of Housing
  • Medr – Commission for Tertiary Education and Research
  • A nominated representative for Regional Skills Partnerships
  • Dwr Cymru
  • Natural Resources Wales
  • Development Bank of Wales
  • Planning Officers Society Wales
  • Royal Town Planning Institute
  • Design Commission for Wales
  • Affordable Housing Contractors Forum
  • House Builders Federation
  • Federation of Master Builders
  • Audit Wales
