As part of the Government’s First 100 Days commitments, I am pleased to announce Arwain, as the national school of government for Wales. Arwain will build on the strong foundations of Academi Wales, bringing a renewed national focus to leadership, learning and capability across the Welsh public sector. It will support the development of a One Wales Public Service approach to leadership, working collaboratively across organisational boundaries to deliver better outcomes for the people of Wales.
Owen Evans, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education and Training in Wales at Estyn, will chair the new Arwain Steering Board, bringing knowledge, senior leadership and public service experience to support this important early phase of work. Steering Board members will inform and champion Arwain across the public sector in Wales through their senior-level reach and influence.
Through Arwain, we will establish the centre of excellence for leadership and capability. Rooted in the Welsh context and grounded in a One Wales Public Service ethos, it will support current and future leaders with the skills, confidence and shared purpose needed to lead change, strengthen delivery and improve outcomes for the people of Wales.
