Earlier this year, I approved the establishment of a Badger Vaccination Grant to give farmers, landowners and other organisations in Wales the opportunity to vaccinate badgers against bovine TB. Vaccination should reduce the level of bovine TB in a badger population and reduce the potential for onward spread of the disease to cattle.

I am pleased to announce that the first application window opened today and will run until 13 December 2013. Successful applicants will be able to begin vaccinating from May 2014. The Badger Vaccination Grant will operate from 2014 to 2019 and will be reviewed annually.

Those wishing to vaccinate badgers in Wales can apply to the Badger Vaccination Grant for financial support. We have made up to £250,000 available, each year, for the next five years. Successful applicants will receive up to 50% of the eligible costs of badger vaccination.
