During last Autumn, I undertook a series of regional Budget Events across Wales in order to meet key stakeholders and partners in order to discuss how the financial challenges facing the Welsh Government are translating into the services we deliver to our citizens.

I found these meetings to be a very useful way of gauging views and opinion of those working in, and using public services. I also believe it is important that this engagement takes place throughout the year. With this in mind, I will be undertaking a Budget Tour across Wales between March and September 2014.

The Budget Tour will comprise a series of regional events to be held monthly, and will offer an opportunity to meet and listen to frontline staff working at the sharp end of public service delivery – in local authorities, health, housing and the third sector.  I will also be visiting projects and settings to meet people who use these services – such as apprentices and pupils, social housing residents and parents - to find out their views on the services that they receive and matter most to them.

I begin my tour today in the South East Wales region, and will report back to Members in the Autumn.
