Today, we are announcing that we will be directing up to £30 million of additional resources into supporting enhanced care in our communities.  This is in the context of the acute challenges of supporting an increasingly older and frail population, and the ongoing pressures within our health and social care system.

The vision behind this is set out in the Welsh Government Statement of Intent document- ‘Building Capacity through Community Care – Further Faster’ which we are also publishing today.  This sets out our mission, consistent with ‘A Healthier Wales’ to develop an integrated community care system for Wales.

We are working jointly with local authorities and the NHS, and with other key partners to make rapid progress in the areas outlined in that document over the coming months.  This approach builds on the positive joint working that delivered 670 extra community beds last winter.

The Minister for Health and Social Services will be making an Oral Statement to the Senedd later today to provide more detail on our approach and the use of the additional funding.
