I have today signed off the draft Welsh National Marine Plan and have written to the UK Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to seek agreement to launch a public consultation on the plan.  This is a requirement of the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009 as the plan includes retained functions.

This will be the first Welsh National Marine Plan and covers our policy for the next 20 years for the sustainable development of the Welsh marine planning area, both inshore and offshore regions.  It sets out ambitious plans for future use of the seas and how different sea users should work together, ensuring we use our resources sustainably and support the many ‘blue growth’ opportunities.

This consultation will provide an opportunity for the people of Wales to input into the plan.
