In November 2013, I established advisory Boards in the Swansea Bay City Region and the Cardiff Capital Region to drive a more strategic regional approach and better collaborative working.  These advisory Boards were established on a Task and Finish basis for the 18 month period, following which the arrangements would be reviewed.

Our City Region Boards in Swansea Bay and the Cardiff Capital Region are making good progress. They have provided leadership, strategic vision, ideas and advice.  They have brought a welcome impetus, focus and energy in seeking out opportunities to develop the city regions.
Over the last few months the City Region Boards have published ambitious visions for development and growth of their respective Regions.  They are currently working to identify and promote major projects to support these.

This is important work, and the role of the Boards is integral to making further progress.  I am therefore extending the appointment period for both Boards until November 2015.  This will enable them to complete their immediate work, after which the position will be considered further.

I will continue to keep Members up to date on progress.
