Today, I am launching a consultation on proposals for non-domestic rates (NDR) support for renewable energy.

The Welsh Government is pursuing a range of reforms during the current Senedd term which will make essential and positive changes to NDR in Wales. The consultation sets out our proposals for an exemption from rating for plant and machinery used in onsite renewable energy generation and electricity storage for electric vehicles, and the provision of a new relief for low-carbon heat networks.

These measures are intended to support the Welsh Government’s ambitions for the transition away from the use of fossil fuels and the decarbonisation of heat. Subject to the outcome of the consultation, we propose to provide this support from 1 April 2024.

The consultation will run for 12 weeks, and responses are requested by 15 August 2023.
