The Welsh Government will take responsibility for teachers’ pay and conditions at the end of this September, with teachers’ pay and conditions being set by the Welsh Government from September 2019.
This is an opportunity to develop a truly national model that enshrines a national approach to supporting and elevating the status of the profession in Wales.
In my Written Statement of 14 December 2017 I notified Members of the establishment of an Independent Task and Finish Group, chaired by Professor Mick Waters, to review Teachers’ Pay and Conditions of Service in Wales.
Alongside this I informed Members of my intention to hold a public consultation to help inform the development of an appropriate system to determine teachers’ pay and conditions of service in Wales.
I can now announce that the consultation on the proposed mechanism for determining teachers’ pay will open today.
