The Welsh Government wants Wales to be a nation where everyone has access to a high quality, safe and affordable home.  Fundamental to this is increasing the supply of new homes, across all tenures.  Over the past year, the Help to Buy - Wales scheme has become an important factor in stimulating the construction of new market housing in Wales through the support it offers to people purchasing those homes.

In order to build on that success, I am announcing the Welsh Government’s intention to extend the Help to Buy – Wales scheme beyond 31 March 2016.

The precise details of the extended scheme will depend on a number of factors, including the outcome of the next UK Government’s Spending Review, which will set the Welsh budget for 2016-17 and beyond.  In advance of this, however, I feel it is important to make the housing sector aware of our plan to extend Help to Buy – Wales, so developers can invest with confidence and buyers can make plans for the future.
