Dr Mike Shooter’s Independent Review of the Role and Functions of the Children’s Commissioner for Wales was published on 10 December 2014 and offered a number of recommendations.

Following my statement on 15 July 2015 and engagement with the Children’s Commissioner, I am pleased to publish our final response to the recommendations made in respect of Welsh Government.  Due to the extent of the review and its findings, great care has been taken to ensure each and every recommendation has been considered carefully. Many discussions have been held between Ministers and with the Commissioner and I am pleased with the progress to date.

On behalf of Welsh Government, I would like to thank the Commissioner for the positive way in which she has responded  to the numerous recommendations directed at her and her office. I am pleased she has found the recommendations useful in her first year as Commissioner.

There were also recommendations for the National Assembly for Wales and I have written to the Presiding Officer to bring them to her attention.

The Commissioner will shortly be publishing the first of her three-year Work Plans, informed by the voices of children and young people.
