Welsh Government are committed to tackling poverty as an absolute priority, using all the levers we have available to their full extent, including taking a leadership role in co-ordinating wider action to work towards eradicating child poverty and its impacts here in Wales.

I am pleased to announce that as part of our work to enable stronger collaboration to address child poverty we have approved 25 proposals across Wales, totalling more than £1.5m, under our Child Poverty Innovation and Supporting Communities grant for 2025/26.

Child poverty is a cross-cutting policy issue, and this is reflected in the diversity of projects which have been successful in securing funding in the highly competitive grant award process. This cross-government approach reflects our shared commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life. By co-ordinating our efforts, we can better address the root causes of poverty and build stronger, more resilient communities.

The proposals being funded will

  • strengthen the capacity of organisations to form collaborative working arrangements to address child poverty,
  • link to one or more of the five objectives of the Child Poverty Strategy for Wales,
  • improve communication and knowledge transfer in addressing child poverty at the local and regional level.

This work builds on the funding provided in 2024/25 where 22 projects were funded to tackle child poverty.

A list of all the successful organisations offered funding is included.
