Jane Hutt MS, Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice, Trefnydd and Chief Whip
Welsh Government are committed to tackling poverty as an absolute priority, using all the levers we have available to their full extent, including taking a leadership role in co-ordinating wider action to work towards eradicating child poverty and its impacts here in Wales.
I am pleased to announce that as part of our work to enable stronger collaboration to address child poverty we have approved 25 proposals across Wales, totalling more than £1.5m, under our Child Poverty Innovation and Supporting Communities grant for 2025/26.
Child poverty is a cross-cutting policy issue, and this is reflected in the diversity of projects which have been successful in securing funding in the highly competitive grant award process. This cross-government approach reflects our shared commitment to giving every child the best possible start in life. By co-ordinating our efforts, we can better address the root causes of poverty and build stronger, more resilient communities.
The proposals being funded will
- strengthen the capacity of organisations to form collaborative working arrangements to address child poverty,
- link to one or more of the five objectives of the Child Poverty Strategy for Wales,
- improve communication and knowledge transfer in addressing child poverty at the local and regional level.
This work builds on the funding provided in 2024/25 where 22 projects were funded to tackle child poverty.
A list of all the successful organisations offered funding is included.
