On 14 June last year I published the outcome of a consultation proposing that responsibility for healthcare services in the Bridgend County Borough Council (CBC) area should transfer to Cwm Taf University Health Board (Cwm Taf) from Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board (ABM); moving the health board boundary accordingly.

As part of the process for developing the boundary change, the chairs of both boards wrote to me to propose that the names of the boards should change to reflect the new geographical boundaries. I asked the chairs to engage with their staff and stakeholders in considering what names would be appropriate.

Both health boards have written to me to confirm their preferred names as part of these arrangements. They propose that Cwm Taf University Health Board would become Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board would become Bwrdd Iechyd Prifysgol Bae Abertawe/ Swansea Bay University Health Board. This follows intensive engagement by the boards with their stakeholders and staff. Chairs of the boards have confirmed that these changes would be implemented in such a way as to minimise the costs of the change.

I am content to agree to these proposed names and therefore, to support their ongoing planning, I am announcing now the above name changes which would take effect from 1 April alongside the wider transfer of health services in Bridgend CBC.
