In accordance with the inter-institutional relations agreement, I can report to Members of the Senedd that I represented the Welsh Government at an Inter-Ministerial Group for Elections and Registration meeting on 14 June.

The meeting was held virtually and, on this occasion, chaired by myself. In attendance were George Adam MSP, Scottish Government Minister for Parliamentary Business, Steve Baker MP, Minister of State, Northern Ireland Office, and Baroness Scott, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, UK Government.

This meeting was a chance to hear an update from the UK Government on the implementation of the Elections Act 2022 and the Scottish Government’s consultation on electoral reform, as well as giving an update on the Welsh Government’s intentions for electoral reform.

A joint Communiqué relating to this meeting was issued on 18 July 2023: Communiqués from the Interministerial Group for Elections and Registration (external link in English only).

We will continue to work together with meetings planned to take place on a quarterly basis and I will keep Members updated.

This statement is being issued during recess in order to keep members informed.     Should members wish me to make a further statement or to answer questions on this when the Senedd returns I would be happy to do so.
