Welsh Government this week launches My Local Health Service, a new website for the transparent communication of NHS Wales performance. The site uses intuitive graphs and charts and detailed explanations to present NHS Wales quality and safety data from health boards, hospitals and primary care. Starting this week with an initial set of health board data, the content will be rapidly developed to include individual hospitals and General Practices. By presenting both the data and the explanatory narrative, the site goes further than ever before to provide genuine insight into NHS performance, so that the public are informed and are able to prompt and recognise improvement.

This website is similar to the successful My Local School website and results from the work of the Transparency and Mortality Taskforce, chaired by the Deputy Chief Medical Officer. It was specifically requested by my predecessor during the plenary debate following the Francis Report publication. The quality and safety measures deliver on my commitment in March that the Taskforce would work to improve the extent of transparency and information. By taking this important step forward, we also deliver policy commitments made within Together for Health and Delivering Safe Care, Compassionate Care.
