Members will wish to be aware that the National Assembly for Wales (Disqualification) Order 2015 was made by the Privy Council on the 15 July 2015.  The Order lists offices and memberships of bodies that disqualify their holders from Assembly Membership. The Order can be seen at the following link:
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/1536/contents/made

The Order will come into force on 1 September, when it will replace the National Assembly for Wales (Disqualification) Order 2010, and all offices listed in the 2015 Order will disqualify their holders from Assembly Membership.

The coming into force date of 1 September will allow the Electoral Commission to take account of the 2015 Disqualification Order in their guidance to candidates prior to the 2016 Assembly elections. It will however also be important that all political parties take steps to ensure that their prospective candidates are fully aware of the Order.

This statement is being issued during recess in order to keep members informed. Should members wish me to make a further statement or to answer questions on this when the Assembly returns I would be happy to do so.
