Adam Price MS, Cabinet Minister for Enterprise, Connectivity and Energy
Between 12 to 16 October 2026, I visited Boston, Massachusetts to attend the Disruptive & Emerging Technologies Alliance (DETA) 2026 annual Ministerial Summit.
Wales is a Member of DETA, which has a global membership. At the Boston Summit, I outlined our commitment to continue to use the summits and working groups to exchange knowledge and inform policy development and build international partnerships.
The focus of the 2026 summit was AI and digital rights. At the conference, members launched the DETA AI network to work together on shared opportunities and policy direction in areas such as governance.
Whilst in Boston, I also took forward a programme of meetings and engagements to further trade and investment links and opportunities for Wales in the wider Boston / Massachusetts region. I met with companies such as IBM and Mass Robotics at Harvard and MIT to discuss investment and partnerships in Wales.
With support from Global Welsh, I met members of the Welsh diaspora in Boston to discuss current investment projects and opportunities to build a strong network of business leaders to identify and secure new investment leads for Wales. With the UK Consul General, I jointly hosted a dinner to celebrate the links between Wales and Boston and met with new and existing investors from sectors including construction, life sciences, renewable energy and steel technology as well as local venture capitalists, and business leaders.
During my visit, I met with an existing US investor in Wales, Microchip, which has a base in Caldicot. The meeting demonstrated the Welsh Government’s commitment to this key member of our semiconductor cluster and provided an opportunity to discuss future investment opportunities with the company. I also visited the world’s largest green business incubator, Greentown Labs, which has achieved success in Boston and Houston by supporting scaling companies to secure investment and create more than 17,000 new jobs in the past 10 years. I also met with tenant companies who have an ambition to grow in Europe, and we discussed opportunities in Wales. Furthermore, we discussed a potential collaboration with Greentown Labs for a base in Wales.
I was also delighted to be invited to deliver a lecture at the Harvard University Growth Lab on the opportunities that AI presents to Wales.
The visit generated new connections for Wales, as well as reaffirming current relationships with existing investors. Follow up is underway to deliver new trade and investment outcomes for Wales.
