The Violence against Women, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence (Wales) Act 2015 (VAWDASV Act) celebrated its fifth anniversary this year. The National Advisers have fully supported the ambition of the Welsh Government to eliminate all forms of gender-based violence and their third annual plan continues to overcome barriers and embed good practice.

Section 22 of the Act requires the National Advisers, Yasmin Khan and Nazir Afzal OBE, to prepare an annual plan setting out their ambitions for the forthcoming financial year. I have reviewed the annual plan and agreed to its publication.

Once again, I greatly value the advice and expertise the National Advisers provide to Welsh Government. No-one could have foreseen the events which were to unfold this year and I am particularly appreciative of the support and advice the National Advisers have given my officials since the start of the coronavirus pandemic. I know the lessons learned in responding to this emergency will inform their work over the course of the coming months.
