The Welsh Government wants a better informed, longer-term strategy of investment in infrastructure which enshrines the principles of the Well-Being of Future Generations Act. We also wish to enable more efficient development of specific projects and enhance our ability to achieve value for money for public sector investment.

That is why we have made the commitment to establish a National Infrastructure Commission for Wales to provide us with independent and expert advice on strategic infrastructure needs and priorities.

I am today launching a public consultation that invites stakeholder views on how the commission could be set up and run. The consultation period will close on 9 January 2017.

The consultation is available on the internet at https://consultations.gov.wales/consultations/national-infrastructure-commission-wales

I shall be making an oral statement on the commission tomorrow.
