Meri Huws stepped down from her roles as Interim President, Vice-President and trustee of the National Library of Wales in early August.

I would like to inform Members of the appointment of Ashok Ahir as the new Interim President of the Board of the National Library of Wales. Ashok is a welcome addition to the Board and I would like to thank him for agreeing to step in to the role until we recruit a new President. The recruitment campaign for a President has opened today, and we hope to have the position filled by Spring 2022.

Ashok brings with him significant experience of the cultural and arts sectors and is a fluent Welsh speaker. He will be taking the role on at a significant time for the National Library, leading the Board and working alongside the Library’s Executive and Welsh Government in implementing the recommendations of the Tailored Review.

During her time in the role Meri has been a friend, advocate and champion of the Library during one of the most challenging periods in the organisation’s history and I would like to extend my thanks to her for her commitment in stepping up to the challenge.
