Following the pre-appointment hearing by the Welsh Parliament’s Health and Social Care Committee on 24 September 2026, I am pleased to confirm that Phil Berrington will take up the role of Chair of Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust from 1 October 2026. I am grateful to the Committee for their scrutiny of this appointment process.
Phil brings a wealth of Board level leadership and governance experience from the NHS in England, alongside a distinguished career in business transformation. As a former Executive Partner at IBM Consulting, he led major accounts supporting organisations through complex transformation programmes driven by technological change.
This appointment has been made in accordance with the Governance Code on Public Appointments.
I would also like to thank Colin Dennis, the departing Chair of Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust, for the significant contribution he has made during his service since 2022.
