In August 2025, I launched the Priorities for Culture - Enhanced Local Sector Support for Museums, Archives & Libraries. A new revenue grant scheme welcomed by local authorities and trusts to help build capacity in the sectors to deliver the Priorities for Culture ambitions. This much needed investment provides vital capacity for a sector that been clear about the pressures it faces, and support required to deliver our shared priorities to deliver our ambitions in the Priorities for Culture.

I am pleased to announce £1.945m will be invested in 15 projects across Wales to reinvigorate services through additional resource, specialist expertise such as curators, librarians and archivists.

These projects will not only improve access to museums, archives and libraries but also drive innovation, foster collaboration through regional and local partnerships, digitise and preserve local history and use technology and outreach to deepen engagement, learning and participation across communities.

This investment builds upon the £11m in capital grants already awarded over the past 6 months since the Priorities for Culture launched, as well as targeted initiatives supporting access to cultural experiences for young people.

This investment reaffirms my belief that our museums, archives and libraries are not optional extras but essential civic infrastructure.
