Today I have agreed to publish our 2014-15 annual report on the Welsh language strategy, A living language: a language for living. Section 78 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 places a statutory duty on Welsh Ministers to adopt a Welsh Language Strategy, and after each year to publish a report outlining how the steps described in the strategy have been implemented during that year.

This year, as well as reporting against the action points in A living language: a language for living, the document also reports on the initial steps taken in relation to the strategic themes contained in the Moving Forward policy statement, published in August 2014. Moving Forward took into consideration many of the developments since the strategy was published in 2012, and explained what our focus would be over the three years to come.

The annual report shows that we have not only made progress against our Living language commitments, but that we have also made a positive start on implementing the aims contained in Moving Forward.

This report on the Welsh Language Strategy is published alongside the annual report on the Welsh Medium Education Strategy, and I urge you to refer to that document for more details about the steps we have taken in that area.
