On 14 June 2022, I informed Members of the creation of an expert panel to explore the establishment of a Shadow Broadcasting and Communications Authority for Wales. The panel was formed to deliver a commitment set out in the Welsh Government’s Co-operation Agreement with Plaid Cymru.
The expert panel was co-chaired by the experienced Welsh broadcaster Mel Doel and Professor Elin Haf Gruffydd Jones and included members with extensive experience of the media landscape in Wales. I have received the Panel’s report, which I am today making available on the Welsh Government’s website at https://www.gov.wales/new-future-broadcasting-and-communications-wales.
I would like to thank the co-chairs and panel members for their work in producing this report. We will now consider the report and its recommendations.
This statement is being issued during recess in order to keep members informed. Should members wish me to make a further statement or to answer questions on this when the Senedd returns I would be happy to do so.
