The Welsh Government has a Welsh Language Scheme, which was prepared under section 78 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 and section 21 of the Welsh Language Act 1993. The scheme sets out how the Welsh Government in the provision of services to the public in Wales, will give effect, so far as is both appropriate in the circumstances and reasonable and practicable, to the principle that the English and Welsh languages should be treated on the basis of equality.

Today, I have agreed to publish the annual report for 2013-14 in relation to the Welsh Language Scheme.  It serves as a clear demonstration of the Welsh Government’s commitment to the Welsh language and our determination to see it thrive. The report highlights the key developments, successes and challenges in the implementation of our scheme over the last year. It also highlights the opportunities and challenges for the next year and includes an action plan setting out key areas for the organisation to address as we move towards implementing the standards.
