Lynne Neagle, Cabinet Secretary for Education
In October 2024 I issued a Written Statement on work to reduce workload and bureaucracy for education staff. I am now able to update members on progress.
Over the last 18 months, the Strategic Workload Coordination Group (SWCG) made up of key stakeholders, including representatives from across the system, has continued its work to identify and implement changes to reduce workload for our school workforce. Its three working groups focused on Finance; Policy Development and Implementation; and Reporting and Engagement. The SWCG has now concluded its work and the independent chair, Anna Brychan, Assistant Dean at University of Wales Trinity St David, has written to update me and to make a series of recommendations.
I accept all the recommendations Anna has made and recognise their importance for the development and direction of the Strategic Education Workforce Plan.
Anna Brychan’s letter and my response are attached.
