We welcome the UK Government’s response to the report by the UK Commission on Covid Commemoration.

We recognise the importance of commemorating those who lost their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic and acknowledging its long-lasting impact on people’s lives across Wales, the UK and beyond.

The Welsh Government supports the work of the UK Government’s COVID-19 Commemoration Programme outlined in the report. In particular, we welcome the emphasis on collaborative commemoration programmes such as the annual Day of Reflection, supporting community memorials, and the conservation of meaningful spaces such as the National Covid Memorial Wall, and the Covid Commemorative Woodlands we have established here in Wales.

We look forward to continuing to engage with the UK Government and other Devolved Governments to ensure the Programme’s work reflects the needs of people across Wales and the UK.
