Mr John Lloyd Jones OBE will continue as interim Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission for Wales until December 2019. The former Cabinet Secretary for Economy & Transport appointed Mr Lloyd Jones on an interim basis for one year to focus on establishing the NICW in its initial phase. Mr Lloyd Jones’ term was due to end on 21 June 2019. A public appointments exercise to select a long term chair for the NICW will begin shortly.

The extension will enable Mr Lloyd Jones to oversee the production of the NICW’s first Annual Report. I am grateful to Mr Lloyd Jones for accepting this extension and for his efforts as interim Chair. He has brought together a group of capable, high quality commissioners and set the Commission on the path to delivery.

I look forward to receiving the NICW’s first annual report in November. The Commission has met and discussed with stakeholders throughout Wales. The report will be the Commission’s first opportunity to present its reflections on these conversations alongside an initial analysis of Wales’ infrastructure needs for the future and priorities for further investigation.
