Following a commitment made in Plenary on 11 March 2014, I am providing a written statement on the road works on the A40 at Crickhowell.

The temporary traffic signals in Crickhowell have been erected because of damage sustained to a listed wall adjacent to the trunk road.  The wall, which is privately owned, was damaged in a traffic collision and the signals were placed to allow the wall to be propped for safety reasons and to prevent further deterioration.

Powys County Council’s building control officers are dealing with the owner of the wall and, because of its listed status they are also liaising with officials from CADW.  My officials have been told that the works will take approximately two weeks but, as yet, there is no confirmed start date.  My officials are pressing all parties for that date to be confirmed.

Regarding the reorganisation of the traffic lights on Llanbedr Road and New Road,   I have asked my officials to discuss the prioritisation of the traffic signals with Powys County Council, as they are Highway Authority for the two county highways.
