Members will be aware that I was in Washington last week to meet with existing businesses looking to expand their operations in Wales and potential inward investors.

I also met with senior representatives of the US/UK Business Council of the US Chamber of Commerce which represents major American companies with investments in the UK.

In response to the announcement of steel tariffs I met with senior officials at the British Embassy to discuss the potential impact of the tariffs on the steel industry in Wales.

The visit also provided a unique opportunity to further raise Wales’ profile in the US capital by hosting a reception at the British Embassy with the WRU ahead of the international game between Wales and South Africa.

This further visit demonstrates the positive and proactive steps we are taking to increase our presence in key global markets and build on our recent record levels of FDI to grow trade and investment.
