The UK Covid-19 Inquiry published its third report The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the healthcare systems of the United Kingdom in March 2026. Having considered the report and its 10 recommendations, we have today written to the Chair, Baroness Heather Hallett DBE, with the Welsh Government response, which is available on our Covid-19 Inquiry webpage.
Over the last six months, Welsh Government officials have worked collaboratively with colleagues across the UK, both within Government and the NHS, to consider and progress the recommendations. Our response sets out how we will implement these recommendations and by when. We will provide further progress updates as part of the regular Covid-19 Inquiry updates cycle each November and May. The first update on the recommendations of this report will be published in May 2027.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who supported Wales's pandemic response, including the extraordinary efforts of NHS staff, social care workers, volunteers, public servants and many others who stepped forward during one of the most challenging periods in recent history. We recognise the profound and lasting impact the pandemic continues to have on people and communities in Wales and remain committed to learning its lessons.
