On 4 November 2015, the Children’s Commissioner for Wales published her Annual Report which reviews the work undertaken by her office from 1 April 2014 to 31 March 2015.  It looks ahead to key pieces of work for the year to come and sets out several calls to action for the Government on key issues affecting children and young people in Wales.

We debated this Report in plenary on 17 November, where I informed Members of my intention to respond in full on behalf of the Welsh Government. The Commissioner has raised issues which touch on the responsibilities of several Ministers, all of whom contributed to this final response I am publishing today.

I am pleased with the progress we have already made in working towards addressing the vast majority of the issues raised.  Earlier this month, I published our Programme for Children and Young People which sets out the work we have undertaken within the Programme for Government to further children’s rights and make Wales a great place for them to live. There is always more to do. However, our commitment to children and their rights has never faltered.

I thank the Commissioner for her report.  I am confident our response, which can be accessed via the link below, will assure her of our commitment to our younger citizens.
