I would like to update Members on the process of preparing Regulations to make Welsh Language Standards for bodies in the health sector.  I am keen to see bodies moving from the previous Welsh Language Schemes system to the standards system so that there is a stronger legal framework in place for the language.

I have now had an opportunity to carefully consider the policy behind the standards for health sector bodies. I can confirm that I will lay the Welsh Language Standards (No.7) Regulations in the new year. These Regulations will specify standards for Local Health Boards, National Health Service Trusts in Wales, Community Health Councils, and the Board of Community Health Councils in Wales. The Regulations will also add Social Care Wales to the bodies that are subject to comply with the Welsh Language Standards (No.4) Regulations 2016.

This Statement is being issued during recess in order to keep Members informed. Should Members wish me to make a further statement or to answer questions on this when the Assembly returns I would be happy to do so.
