Only certain bird gatherings may now take place across Wales.

We have amended the general licence for gatherings (bird fairs, markets, shows etc). This follows an increase in risk from avian influenza.

As of 8 November 2021, gatherings of galliforme and anseriforme birds may no longer take place.

The new general licence for bird gatherings allows gatherings with the exception of:

  • galliforme birds (including pheasants, partridge, quail, chickens, turkey, guinea fowl);
  • anseriforme birds (including ducks, geese, swans);
  • birds that are reared or kept in captivity for the production of meat or eggs for consumption; the production of other commercial products; for restocking supplies of game, or for the purposes of any breeding programme for the production of these categories of birds.

Further detail can be found in the general licence document, which is being kept under constant review.
